New Braunfels is now the nation’s second-fastest growing city with a population of 50,000 or more, according to estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

In 2000, the city’s population was 36,494. In 2010, the Census Bureau reported it grew to 57,740. That is a 58-percent increase in population in a ten-year period.

Fast-forward to 2014, population estimate is 66,394, a 15-percent growth in population over just four years.Thursday’s estimate puts the city’s population at 70,543 on July 1, 2015. That’s up a little over 6 percent in a single year.The Census will be completed again in 2020, it’ll be interesting to see if that growth continues on the same pace.
